TECHNOLOGY
Microcell™ is a novel extrusion-based PEM fuel cell technology that operates on a cylindrical or tubular platform. Microcell technology utilizes an extrusion process in which the components for making a single cell, i.e. the electrocatalyst of cathode and anode, the membrane electrolyte, and the current collectors are all extruded as one fiber, ranging in size from a few hundred to several thousand microns. Microcells are scalable electrochemical cells capable of producing electrical power in a range from milli-watts to multi-kilowatt units operating on hydrogen or methanol.
Microcells™ offer several unique features including:
1- Extrusion-based Production - Microcells are produced by an automated extrusion-based process which operates at high production rates significantly lowering production costs.
2- High Power Density - The cell's fibrous geometry provides for the highest achievable MEA surface area to volume ratio, resulting in compact fuel cells.
3- Range of Applications – Microcell fibers can be bundled in parallel and connected in series to deliver power in a variety of customized current and voltage output, shapes and sizes.
