HYDROGEN GENERATION
AND STORAGE
Microcell’s micro-tubular PEM fuel cell architecture has been adapted to operate as an electrolyzer producing hydrogen from water using an external power source. This form of hydrogen generation is uniquely suited to operate as an energy storage device within a utility micro-grid distributed storage system. Microcell’s high efficiency CHP fuel cell system operating on direct hydrogen when coupled with its high efficiency electrolyzer will enable a round-trip efficiency that will be competitive in several utility applications such as DSM (Demand Side Management) and in some instances enabling solar and wind power to become dispatchable.
Microcell anticipates pre-commercial and commercial hydrogen generation and storage will become available starting in 2011. |
